Legends of the DC Universe #6, page 8

Once again, Dave Taylor layouts and my finishes.  This page was a bit more finished than some of the others but by now I was on a roll.  By the way, the Superman face in the last panel was swiped cold by another artist.  I don't think I would have noticed but the other artist's editor called me up to apologize so I compared the two.  Oh well, it happens...

  1. Can I ask you something Kevin?
I was looking at the work you posted on Dave Taylor layout, and I was wondering how the credits were on that comic, because it seems you redraw (well draw and inked in your style) the work of Dave.
    How was this solved?
I always admire artist like you who take layouts to a differente level in all terms.
Beautiful work as always Kevin and have a great week!

  2. I think the credits just read Dave Taylor: Layouts and Kevin Nowlan: Finishes.

  3. Wow!
Thank you so much for the answer.
I asked you this because of the eternal question of what a finisher really does when they receive layouts in different states of quality and specially for the way sometimes audience and readers believe that is just a matter of just tracing when is not really that and involves craft and expertise.
I have told this before but I love how you give your style to what you touch!!

    Thanks again Kevin!!

  4. I actually first saw the finished art as it was featured in Klaus Janson's Guide To Inking. I have studied it so much my book now automatically pops open to that page! There is so much to be impressed about. I think it was at that point that I began to perceive the power you bring with your inks. The last panel buildings are amazing, as is the Superman. I realize you are being diplomatic, but now you have raised curiouosity about the swiping artist...must be somebody you don't want to embarrass...but the art certainly is 'swipe-worthy'!

The layouts are really good, but you took it to a whole 'nother level!

i noticed you took some liberties with the finishes. like robins hair, and superman's cape in panel 3. where those just instincts on your part, or direction from other sources?

    peace out
